Rape, Murder Top 2013 Crime Record in Ekiti

Just yesterday we posted Osun State's rape record for 2013, today, Ekiti State is on the hot seat. According to reports, rape and murder topped Ekiti's crime record for 2013. Well, inasmuch as this is frightening, we are indeed happy that victims of rape are stepping out of the "shame zone" and are reporting rape cases. We are also commending the police for their hardwork.

The Ekiti State Police Command said in Ado- Ekiti, the state capital, on Tuesday that there were increased cases of rape and murder in the state last year. 

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Sotonye Wakama, gave the hint while rendering the account of the command’s efforts in crime prevention and reduction strategy in 2013. 

The CP put the number of reported rape cases in Ekiti State in 2013 at 44 against the 30 cases in 2012. 

He said there were 44 reported murder cases in the command last year, against the 31 reported cases in the preceding year.

Man, 19, Defiles Three-Year-Old Girl in Ekiti

Vanguard Newspaper  reports that 19-year-old Usman Joshua, has been arrested by the police in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly defiling a three-year-old girl. (names withheld).

Joshua, who is a co-tenant with the toddler’s parents, was said to have lured her into his room with biscuit at about 5:05 p.m. on November 3, 2013.

Her mother, Wuraola, said she noticed that her daughter was not feeling comfortable when she returned to their apartment by evening of the said day.

A closer look by her mother showed that the little girl had been defiled. She told her mother that she was playing within the compound when Joshua told her to come for biscuit.

Man, 45, Allegedly Rapes 75YO Woman in Ekiti

We brought you this story some weeks back HERE, this is a quick update.

A 45-year-old farmer, Lawrence Adedapo, is now in Police custody for allegedly forcibly having carnal knowledge of a 75-year-old woman, Grace Asaolu, at Ogbese Camp, Ise-Ekiti in Ise-Orun Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

Adedapo was said to have invited the septuagenarian to his house on November 7 this year under the pretex that he brought some plantain from his farm for sale.

The accused was said to have taken advantage of the old woman’s fragile nature, overpowering her before having carnal knowledge of her.

The Vanguard reports that an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday ordered the remand of a 45-year-old man, Lawrence Adedapo, in prison for alleged rape of a 75-year-old woman.

Chief Magistrate Simeon Ojo, who gave the order in his ruling, decried the alarming cases of rape in the state.
